Digital Inclusion for Growth and Development in the UAE

The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) considers digital inclusion for persons with disabilities an integral part of both equality and development in the country. To ensure access to ICTs for the entire population, licensees in the state must ensure that telecommunications services include this group and that persons with disabilities receive priority service. Finally, the government will train workers in the telecommunications service sector to help them better address the needs of consumers with disabilities. The TRA plans to monitor and evaluate this initiative by surveying such customers.

TRA Director General H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri believes these initiatives allow “these citizens to take advantage of the remarkable evolution and rapid growth of the UAE’s ICT sector… We aim to provide all the reasons that allow us to successfully become leaders in the field of national services for people with disabilities we have a firm belief of taking advantage of all competencies and human resources we have in the UAE who can partake in engaging in the industry’s comprehensive and integrated development process.”
