Croatia’s Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) celebrated its first ‘International Girls in ICT Day’ this year, in partnership with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

The day’s events were varied and exciting, including discussions and presentations and opportunities for participants to visit ICT businesses. Professor Mirta Barancović presented on “Female vs. Male Students at FER Before & Today,” and Mrs. Mirjana Miholić gave a talk entitled “There are few of us but we count.”

A discussion with the following panelists about the advantages and challenges of being a woman in the ICT sector proceeded after the presentations, with an emphasis on audience interaction: “Mirta Baranović (FER), Gordana Kovačević (Ericsson), Vedrana Miholić (CROZ, Programerko), Ivana Matić (Women in Adria), Tanja Pušelj Ostroški (IN2).”

Finally, local high school and university students had the opportunity to visit Ericsson Nikola Tesla as well as the association “Programerko,” which advocates ICT education for children from an early age. At Ericsson Nikola Tesla, participants spoke with the company’s Vice President, Mrs. Gordana  Kovačević.
