Minister of Youth and ICT Appeals to Rwandan Girls
As part of YouthConnekt’s celebration of Girls in ICT Day 2015 and the culmination of Rwanda’s Ms. Geek Competition, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, Minister of Youth and ICT, encouraged girls to join the ICT sector. “It is very important for young girls and women globally, more especially in Rwanda, to take up studies and careers in ICT. Our country is on the move, we are busy transforming our economy from agricultural base economy to a knowledge-driven economy. ICT happen to be the engine of that transformation,” he said, highlighting the important job opportunities and connections that studying ICT can provide.
Girls in ICT Rwanda President, Lucy Mbabazi added, ““Technologies enable solutions. We want girls to know that they can use ICT to solve the different problems they face.”
Youth Connekt, an organization gives young people, businesses, and government opportunities to solve challenges faced by youth in the country, included other speakers at the event who further inspired girls to pursue ICT, both for their own entrepreneurial endeavors as well as to improve their communities.
