The Kenyan government plans to employ 400 ICT graduates by October to improve ICT-based governance. This program involves a one year training period followed by full-time employment.

Dr. Matunda Nyanchama said this is part of the government’s plan to create 180,000 jobs in the ICT sector, and increase its share of GDP to 8% by 2017. There will be a particular focus on increasing budgets for social media departments and reducing corruption in the industry.

In conjunction, and to encourage innovation in the ICT sector, OLX online classifieds, will sponsor the OLX Kenya Social Media Awards to promote economic empowerment through social media.
