Women in ICT at Forefront of Nigeria’s NCS Election
More and more women are participating in Nigeria’s ICT sector and this increase is demonstrated by their involvement in the upcoming Nigerian Computer Society conference.
The 2015 conference will involve elections for leadership positions. Many women are in the running for such positions including Mrs. Veronica Ola Owolabi, who is currently the Chairlady of the NCS Credentials Committee. She hopes to become the Deputy President of the IT interest group.
A Presidential candidate, Chris Uwaje, has also made great strides for including more women in ICT, having played a key role in the development of Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NWIIT), an organization associated with the NSC.
Dr Adeola Illechukwu, President of NWIIT, favors Mrs. Veronica Ola Owolabi as the Deputy President, given her long-time involvement in NCS and her understanding of the industry.
These candidates and their involvement in increasing the participation of women in the ICT sector, clearly show a positive trend towards greater gender parity in the ICT sector in the country.
