The African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology, a Kenyan organization, helps to improve access to and use of ICTs for women’s socioeconomic and political empowerment.

They engage in projects such as building community technology centres, helping entrepreneurs, and training women, among other activities. ACWICT focuses on scalable and flexible projects.

One particularly impressive project the centre supported is the Innovative Women Teachers programme, which reached 150,000 female teachers in Kenya through a train the trainer approach.

They also have an entrepreneurship training and mentoring programme for girls and young women between the ages of 15 and 22 and reports on access to telecommunications for women and online protection.

In conjunction with the government’s commitment to improve overall access and to incorporate the use of ICT in primary and secondary schools, these programmes are sure to make an impact on Kenyan women.
