Digital Literacy Training for Nigerian Women

The National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) is teaming up with UN Women and Intel to train at least 25 women in ICT through a train the trainer approach. The aim of this program is to help women use and access the internet for their own economic empowerment. Women will learn how to use digital services and e-services to promote their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Lady Onyeka Onwenu, Director General of the NCWD, recognizes the critical importance of ICT in the empowerment of women, particularly women entrepreneurs. She says, “We are making efforts to push for a wider narrative and vision where African women’s issues should go and we believe that when you empower a woman, you empower a nation.”

The specific elements of the training relate to “the Role of ICT in business, Internet usage for business, social media, web design and hosting, online marketing of products and services.”
