Taiwan Organizes Seminar on Empowering Women through ICT for Inclusive Growth
Taiwan organized a capacity building seminar for women on September 16 at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and the Economy 2015 Forum in the Philippines. This one-day seminar focused on Empowering Women through ICT for Inclusive Growth and was part of the country’s collaborative Women and Economic Development Project with Australia, Chile, South Korea, and the Philippines.
According to Minister Joyce Yen Feng, the digital gender gap in the region is large. Improving this is crucial to advancing “women-owned microbusinesses and small and medium enterprises.”
The event was organized in the form of panel discussions with business leaders and other experts on the panels. They spoke on “women-friendly ICT applications, identified key elements for successful replication and promotion of communication channels, and laid the foundation for ongoing collaboration between the public, private and nongovernmental organization sectors.”
Finally, Taiwan presented on the Women and Economic Development Project’s successes and research and other participants highlighted best practices and policy recommendations.
