Web accessibility ruling for government institutions in Chile

Based on the 2008 ratification of the “Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” and further related national regulation, the Chilean government presented in March 2015 the “Technical Norm about State Systems and Web Sites.” The main objective of this regulation is to standardize the creation of accessible systems and web pages that allow persons with disabilities to equally interact with public services.

The ruling requires the web sites of government entities to be designed and developed to guarantee full accessibility and availability to information as well as content and function interoperability. Systems and web pages must be implemented in accordance with national and international universal accessibility guidelines providing equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. They must also comply with the newest W3C standards for access and visualization.
