Perkins Access to support educational institutions for complying with US Federal Accessibility regulation

During the past few months, several lawsuits in the USA have been filed against different major organizations due to the lack of accessibility features that allow persons with disabilities to use their web sites. As a consequence, relevant modifications on the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act are currently expected in order to mandate digital assets to be accessible for all users.

In this context, the Perkins Access initiative consists on providing support for educational institutions to comply with federal digital accessibility regulations. Based on the support of a group composed by tech experts with different disabilities, Perkins organization generates digital assets’ assessments and offers solutions for adapting institutional websites to the most recent regulatory standards.

According to Cris Broyles, Perkins Solutions’ director of digital accessibility: “By making websites accessible, we not only create a more accessible world for individuals with disabilities, we make organizations more attractive to a broader audience.”
