South African Post Offices to become digital literacy hubs
UN Women’s South Africa Multi-Country Office (SAMCO) and the South African Post Office launched a digital literacy project to provide women entrepreneurs with digital literacy skills. The program will consist in turning post office buildings from South Africa’s nine provinces into enterprise hubs that provide participants with computers, internet access and diverse training opportunities.
In these hubs, women entrepreneurs will be trained with a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes digital literacy, financial knowledge and business principles. The main target will be entrepreneurs from rural areas who have limited access to technology. Around 10,000 women are expected to learn how to use technology tools for their businesses and access financial services online in more than 1,500 Post Office branches.
Additionally, support for finding grants, financial services and further economic opportunities for enhancing their projects will be provided.
