The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network Inc. (viNGN), subsidiary of the Finance Authority,  created a new Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) called “Absolute Beginners Computer Lab” to promote digital literacy within its region. The lab contains different textual and audiovisual contents that help users understand how to utilize basic computing functions that go from using a mouse and a keyboard, to browsing through internet, emailing and online safety.

It is designed as a one hour lab that provides attainable goals as well as a general overview of computers and internet for new learners. It offers a downloadable guide for people who have never used a computer, next to a series of other online resources.  In the end, an exam is taken to earn a certificate that shows the student’s achievements.

Additional support from viNGN is offered for advanced users that request for more advanced online training in topics such as Microsoft Office, application development, resume building, social media, accounting, education, project management, coding, Web design and other topics. For more information or training sessions for trainers, you may contact adavis@vingn.com.
