International Telecommunication Union and East Africa Community organize E-accessibility workshop

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the East Africa Community Secretariat (EAC) will host an E-accessibility Policy workshop for East Africa from 6 to 7 October 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. The main objective of this event is to provide a space for governments to discuss and develop policy recommendations for increasing ICT-accessibility in their region.

The results from this digital inclusion exercise will be grouped in a set of policy recommendations that will be shared with the East Africa Community member states. The final document will set a guideline that may later be implemented among the participating countries. Special emphasis will be placed in enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Some of the main topics that will be covered include the definition of accessibility, regulation, countries’ experience, government website and mobile phones accessibility, public access centers and policy design. Visit the event’s official agenda and register here.
