Public and private collaborators “train the trainers” in Vietnam

A series of “train-the-trainer” workshops took place in Vietnam through the coordination of the ICT Department under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), Microsoft Vietnam and Vietnet-ICT. The workshops related to the use of ICTs were provided to 500 IT teachers from six different provinces: Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, Danang, Quang Nam, Soc Trang and Kien Giang.

According to research done as part of Microsoft’s “Youthspark Digital Inclusion” program from early 2016, computing hubs in remote and ethnic minority boarding schools were old and not well equipped. Based on its findings, the government promoted collaboration with private parties in order to develop a more actualized training curriculum to be piloted in remote boarding skills teaching Applied ICT, 2D and 2D graphics, moviemaker and game coding. These learning opportunities are provided through interactive platforms such as Kodu, Scratch, Alice and movie maker applications.

The program is meant to provide students with the opportunity to strengthen their computational thinking, algorithmic, problem solving and data processing skills. It combines online with offline training and teaches professors through tutorials that are available on MoET’s Training Portal. Additional monthly webinars are organized to answer questions and share best practices.
