New YOUmedia Miami center teaches digital skills to youth from low income areas

New YOUmedia Miami center created by Big Brothers Big Sisters will support local youth to enhance their digital skills and expand the opportunities of teens interested in technology careers. The hub will provide youth aged 5-18 with access to diverse digital tools for performing functions such as sound recording, video production, mobile app development and photography. The first classes will take place in December 2016.

The center is part of a US network of learning hubs that mainly seeks to support residents from low income areas to increase their digital skills. It also supports parents and volunteers to enhance their technical knowledge in exchange for their contribution to the mentoring programs.

According to Gale Nelson, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami,  “Through YOUmedia, we will help our youth gain digital literacy and better prepare to compete in the 21st Century workplace.”
