Computer hub in Kaiti, New Zealand to teach digital literacy for youth and elderly

A new computer hub in Kaiti, New Zealand has opened its doors to welcome youth and seniors to use its infrastructure to learn digital skills. This space is intended to provide training for community members despite their previous levels of technology knowledge.

The new digital center established at Ka PaiKaiti Hub was created with the collaboration of Tairawhiti Technology Trust (TaiTech). While it is meant to support all members of the community, in the beginning it will mostly focus on providing seniors with learning opportunities to use technology for improving their daily lives.

According to Ka PaiKaiti’s manager, Tuta Ngarimu, “We have a lot of vision with where we are heading and what we are wanting to do, we hope people use this as a community resource. We’re providing somewhere anyone can come and learn, we are wanting to help our young ones develop their ideas like graphic design and gaming.”
