The Nigerian Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) group organized a hands-on workshop to train women and young girls in ICT skills as part of its 3rd national conference related to “Women and ICT: Veritable tools for Sustainable Economy.” The first edition of NIWIIT’s workshop was designed to empower participants to be better prepared to support the development of the national economy.

The workshop will become a sustained project through tech centers and will be extended to rural areas in the country to further address illiteracy and poverty issues. According to Lagos state’s Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Lola Akande, girls’ ICT literacy is essential to eradicate poverty and promote productivity in the country. Furthermore, she called for collaboration between the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and NIWIIT to boost the impact of the program.
