Microsoft Accessibility Summit to empower persons with disabilities in India

Microsoft India organized its first Accessibility Summit to promote the enhancement of technology to address the needs of persons with disabilities. The event gathered representatives from government, public and private organizations to share their experiences and demonstrate the business value of accessibility as a relevant opportunity for the market.

An additional emphasis was placed on the need for comprehensive regulatory policies, specifications and standards to boost innovation on accessible technologies. It is expected that the adoption of this scope could drive more stakeholders to invest in accessible and adaptive devices to promote inclusion and empower persons with disabilities.

According to Navreet Kang, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, “We believe that inclusion of persons with disabilities is imperative for India’s growth. It is therefore, critical that we empower them with equal access and opportunity”. Further statements indicated the intention of the government to establish public-private partnerships to drive this change.
