New Tech4ED centers to enhance education and employment through ICTs in Philippines

The Department of Information and Communication Technologies in Philippines launched the Tech4ED project in Santa Fe and Bambang towns from Nueva Vizcaya province. The program consists in establishing ICT centers for citizens to leverage the capacity of information technologies to enhance their businesses, education and employment.

Tech4Ed is an ongoing program that is currently incorporating the use of information technologies in six main areas, which are enabling online education, providing digital employment opportunities, generating industry partnerships for students, supporting agricultural businesses, generating markets in rural communities and providing access to e-government services.

The technology centers are created in a partnership between local government and civil society organizations. According to Nimir Calupitan, Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Field team leader, “We endeavor to harness information, communication and technology skills of every Filipino by bringing digital literacy opportunities further to the countryside.”
