WTDC-17: Together for an #accessible world
Last Sunday October 8, 2017, as part of the pre-events organized on the occasion of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17), the Telecommunication development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) brought together a group of diverse stakeholders from all over the world to share their views, challenges and success stories related to ICT accessibility. The event, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, enabled governments and organizations to network, receive guidance, share recommendations and explore partnership opportunities to make ICTs accessible for persons with disabilities within their respective regions.
The program was divided into three sections:
- Introduction from the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) related to resources for promoting accessibility in different regions. Some of the topics included web accessibility, public procurement capacity building, ICT accessibility policy and access to telecommunication services.
- A series of interactive discussions about challenges to ICT accessibility for decision-makers, best practices for implementation of effective policies, and future steps for global implementation of ICT accessibility.
- An open space for networking, pitching proposals and building partnerships for boosting ICT accessibility projects.
