Transputec Academy brings digital devices and literacy to rural villages in India

Transputec Academy is an initiative organized by Haven, a UK-based charity, to provide children from rural villages in West Bengal, India, with access to digital devices (such as laptops, tablets and PCs) and connectivity infrastructure. The project consists in sending staff to install hardware and Wi-Fi in schools and later follow-up by developing educational software to improve the learning resources.

Additionally, the initiative focuses on making ICTs attractive for girls to promote female empowerment thus decreasing the digital divide. Around 60% of the places in the academy are exclusively dedicated to girls’ development. According to the leaders of the organization, this will provide them with the chance to explore life-changing career options and expand their opportunities.
