FCC calls for nominations to recognize innovative accessibility projects
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the Unites States launched a call for nominations for the Seventh Chairman’s Awards for Advancement in Accessibility (Chairman’s AAA) open until February 28, 2018. The awards will recognize the work of individuals, organizations, academic institutions, companies and government agencies that make communications products and services more accessible for persons with disabilities.
Eligible projects will consist in the development of assistive technologies for the market, establishment of standards, or implementation of best practices. According to the official call for nominations, submissions may be submitted for “products, services, technologies or practices introduced to the public for the first time that are the result of an invention of an innovative technology, repurposing or redesign of existing technologies, or combining existing technologies in novel ways to increase accessibility for people with disabilities.”
Nominations will be evaluated by an FCC committee based on uniqueness, usability, range of audience, affordability, availability and benefits from the recognition. Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony in June 2019 in conjunction with the M-Enabling Conference in Arlington, VA.
