Universal Service Fund empowers Pakistani Girls in ICT to strive in the digital economy
In December 2015, we published a post about Bait-ul-Mal and the national Universal Service Fund (USF) joining forces with Microsoft to launch its Girls in ICT program to help train 5000 girls. Two years later, the program has continued to grow and results were published showing their successful achievements .
The Ministry of IT through USF has now established 226 computer labs in Government Girls’ institutions in Islamabad and is currently providing training for over 100,000 students and 202 teachers. Further improvements for the program are soon expected, for example, as the USF signed an MoU with Huawei at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, to collaborate in the spheres of program designing, training and sharing experiences for broadband services and intelligent digital platforms.
The initiative shows how Girls in ICT can benefit from public-private partnerships that empower them to learn skills for striving in the digital economy.
