Huawei ICT contest calls on Kenyan college students to participate

Huawei launched an ICT competition for college students in Kenya to showcase their digital literacy skills. The project intends to boost the interest of youth in using technology to innovate thus becoming better prepared to share their capabilities on a global stage. The contest will be embedded in Huawei’s ICT Academy program, which is currently implemented around 12 Kenyan universities.

The previous edition of Huawei ICT contest in 2017 attracted 40,000 applicants from 800 universities in 32 countries. In 2018, participation is expected to increase up to 50,000 applicants from 50 countries during the preliminary stage. According to Samuel Kinuthia, Instructor at Nairobi-based Zetech University, students have embraced the ICT skills contest because of its potential to improve their employability.
