The GIMPA School of Technology launched the Women in Information Technology and Engineering (WITE) program in Accra, Ghana. The program was designed to encourage and empower females in junior, senior high schools and tertiary institutions to learn about ICTs and engineering as possible choices for career paths. Additionally, it seeks to connect students with women in ICT and engineering role models that can provide them with career guidance and mentorship.

Students at the WITE schools will be able to participate in individual competitions, school tours, mentorship programs, and other activities. The program places a major emphasis not only on preparing students with the right skills, but also on breaking stereotypes that hinder the participation of more girls in STEM fields. Organizers express confidence on the need of introducing girls at an early age to computer science in order to bridge the gender gap in the ICT field.
