Kenya’s government promotes youth self-employment through digital skills
Bungoma County’s government and the Kenyan Department of ICT launched a training program to empower more than 4,000 youth with online skills and jobs. This initiative was first evaluated as a pilot project supporting 35 youth during July 2018 with the collaboration of Ajira Digital. The second phase will run from August to December 2018, targeting 100 youth per ward across each of the different regions of the country.
Participants from the pilot program were trained to become trainers for the next generations. The next batch of beneficiaries also learn different soft skills such as writing proposals, e-marketing, blogging, and creating entrepreneurship platforms. In addition to the program, the ICT Department is currently working on setting up a hub with high-speed Internet to receive youth performing online jobs at any time of the day.
