Singapore seeks to increase the digital skills of workers from the maritime sector
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) of Singapore launched a new training initiative to improve the ICT skills of 23,000 workers from the maritime sector. To do this, the organization released a digital readiness framework, which contains a step-by-step guide to train workers on key technology skills that can help them boost their productivity.
The courses offered by NTUC are divided into four different levels to address the different competencies of workers. Beginner courses are intended to build up the confidence of workers and their familiarity with fundamental devices such as computers and tablets. In the next levels, participants learn about emerging technologies and how to apply them in their day to day work.
This initiative illustrates the relevance of digital skills to improving the productivity in different industries. Additionally, it adopts a multi-level approach, which recognizes the different skill levels of participants and adapts to their needs.
