A national IT contest was organized in India to select suitable nominees to attend the 2016 Global IT Challenge (GITC) for Youth with Disabilities next November 21-25 in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China. The event will gather groups of youth from 13 to 19 years of age to utilize technology for tackling problems related to vision, hearing, mobility and intellectual disabilities.
In order to be eligible to apply for attending the competition, participants must know how to work with the Internet Explorer browser, have general Microsoft Office skills and how to generate Scratch Programs. Also good communication skills in English are encouraged. Those selected will be paid for accommodation and will be provided with an escort to support them during the trip to China.
The GITC is a project that challenges youth with disabilities to utilize ICTs to solve problems. In addition to providing them with the ability to leverage information and social participation, it seeks to set ICT agendas for participant countries to boost international cooperation and exchange for accessibility. The annual initiative has worked to alleviate the digital divide in the Asia-Pacific region for the last 20 years.
