Ministry of Communication announces new Digital Literacy Council in Nigeria

The Ministry of Communication in Nigeria inaugurated its first Digital Literacy Council to oversee and guide the development of policy standards that promote the equal adoption of ICTs and their use to strengthen local economy. It will mostly focus on providing digital literacy services in all regions of the country and preparing youth to become globally competitive workers.

The council will be conformed as a multi-stakeholder institution including private organizations, government representatives, academics and civil society. It will oversee the development of a National Digital Literacy Policy and Strategic Action Plan for digital literacy while promoting the creation of partnerships among stakeholders.

 According to the official public announcement, the “Digital Literacy Program will provide the opportunity for individuals and communities to understand the use of Information and Communications Technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information for meaningful actions and within life situations.’’
