Online platform to provide Kenyan youth with job opportunities
The Information, Communications and Technology Ministry in collaboration with the office of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs in Kenya launched a program to support youth to obtain online jobs. Through the ajiradigital.go.ke portal, it is expected to benefit over one million unemployed youth in 2017.
The platform will provide easy access to online work opportunities as well as tools, training and mentorship to enhance their digital skills and earn money through online labor. The program is intended to promote economic growth while targeting unemployment and providing youth with skills to better succeed in their careers. Additional tax benefits will be offered to those who participate in the initiative.
Finally, in order to promote easier access to the platform, the ICT ministry announced the launch of innovation hubs across the country. These spaces will offer 24-hour free Internet access initially in 47 counties.
