European Commission presents new plan for using digital technologies for development

On May 2nd 2017, the European Commission presented “Digital4Development: mainstreaming digital technologies and services into EU” policy document. This plan seeks to incorporate the use of ICTs in Europe’s development initiatives to meet the Sustainable Development goals. Its main four priority areas are:

  1. Access to affordable and secure broadband through adequate infrastructure
  2. Boosting digital literacy and skills
  3. Promoting digital entrepreneurship and job creation
  4. Use of Digital Technologies for sustainable development and gender equality

Digital4Development presents measures and strategies to support the achievement of EU policy and suggests dialogue between countries as well as public-private partnerships.
