Ghana Code Day to teach digital skills for 400 high school children

Ernestina Appiah, one of the co-winners of Digital Changemakers’ competition in 2016, organized a one day coding session for children from junior high schools in Accra, Ghana. Around 400 school children participated in the event, better known as “Ghana Code Day,” where several experts were invited to teach them programming with different software, including Scratch, HTML and CSS skills for web development.

The program was launched in alignment with government’s policy and utilizing some of the current 194 Community Information Centers spread across the country for sharing digital skills. Vincent Sowah Odotei, Deputy Minister for Communications and Member of Parliament, expressed his interest to further develop policy for increasing the level of digital skills taught in schools and further collaborate to enlarge the reach of Ghana Code Day.
