Buenos Aires Declaration invites stakeholders to leverage ICTs for development
Last October 20, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) announced the Buenos Aires Declaration to conclude the World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC), whose main discussion topic was ICTs for Sustainable Development. In the document, the organization presents 24 points providing guidance to various stakeholders to better support the adoption of ICTs for development.
In overall terms, the 24 points address a range of topics that go from digital literacy and innovation, to policy implementation, infrastructure enablement and collaboration between different actors. It is expected for the declaration to support the actions of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the goals reflected on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Additionally, it reflects the value of ICT adoption for the digital economy and supporting vulnerable population to have better opportunities.
