SCVO Digital released Scotland’s Essential Digital Skills Toolkit, which can used as a guide for individuals and organizations promoting digital skills projects in their communities or workplaces. The document is intended to help users identify the skills gap, benchmark against other organizations, gather required evidence, and measure the success of a program or intervention.

The toolkit was developed with support of over 60 different organizations, placing an emphasis on accessibility to address the needs of real world people. It contains a framework for identifying essential digital skills that consists of four areas: problem solving, communicating, handling information & content, and performing online transactions. It also presents a checklist to determine if individuals possess foundational skills such as turning on a laptop or mobile device, using accessibility tools, connecting to Wi-Fi, or using safety features such as password management.
