The United States International University, Africa (USIU-Africa) established a partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to launch a Coding for Employment Center of Excellence. The creation of this hub for innovation and technology is part of a broad initiative launched by AfDB in 2016 to equip 50 million African youth with employable skills by 2025.

The Coding for Employment Center of Excellence is intended to provide African youth with access to education and training, transformative jobs, and entrepreneurship skills. Among other benefits, this will equip the university with ICT equipment and facilities, high quality industry-led ICT training from the Bank’s partners, and linkages to job opportunities for beneficiaries.

According to Professor Amos Njuguna, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension of USIU-Africa, “Preparing youth for the jobs of tomorrow remains a necessity in Africa, where many still lack the digital knowledge and soft skills required to succeed.”
